How To Perform Adult CPR - British Red Cross

See video

What to do if someone is unconscious and not breathing.

  • Place your hands directly on the centre of their chest, between the nipples. With the heel of your hand, press down (4-5cm or 1.5 inches), giving about two chest presses per second.
  • If you feel confident doing so, give 2 breaths after every 30 chest compressions. Pinch the person’s nose. Place your mouth over their mouth and – by blowing steadily – attempt 2 rescue breaths each over one second.
  • Continue with cycles of 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths until emergency help arrives.
