I want to use StatPlanet to visualize a categorisation of the countries in the world, depending on their agreements with the EU. Right now, I have eight categories that I would like to use. I tried using TRUE/FALSE, but that didn't work. I don't need year, and frankly, not indicator either, just categories. Is it possible? |
Hi Lasse, Perhaps it's a bit
Hi Lasse,
Perhaps it's a bit too late for your purposes, but the new version of StatPlanet now has this functionality. You can now have qualitative / category legends, indicate the number of categories or color classes, etc.
It can be downloaded here:

Hi Lasse. You're right you
Hi Lasse.
You're right you can assign numerical values to the categories. To change the 'legend' and put in your own values, go to StatPlanet_data_editor.xls and click on the button "More options". You should see some new columns appear. In the columns "MAP_MIN" and "MAP_MAX", put in your own values. Then go to the Excel sheet "Settings". Change the setting for "Adjust scale - indicator" and "Adjust scale - region" to FALSE (so that StatPlanet does not automatically update the map legend).

So far, so good - I'm
So far, so good - I'm getting there. I've asigned my own numerical values, but am still limited to the 5 original categories. Can I change that? Preferably to 10, but a few less could do as well.
Glad to hear you're getting
Glad to hear you're getting there. It's not possible to have more or less categories at the moment. It would take some time for me to implement that, but I'll let you know when it's done.
Hi again I came to thinking:
Hi again
I came to thinking: Is it possible to change the numerical values of all of the current categories (in the upper right corner), and perhaps add more? If it is, I could just assign numerical values to the categories I'm using, and, almost, arrive at the result I need.

Hi Frank, What a shame. I
Hi Frank,
What a shame. I really had my hopes up when I first found StatPlanet, because it is a great program. I need it for a presentation, but I guess I can do without. I hope you get around to it soon.
Lasse
Hi Lasse, Unfortunately this
Hi Lasse,
Unfortunately this categorization feature is not yet available, although it has been on the 'to do' list for a while and will definitely be added at some point. What kind of project do you need it for?
